Perfectly Personalized Pictures…..

An Alternative to Store-bought Art

Sure it’s fun to search for the perfect picture. Whether it’s a special color combination you’re looking for, a certain subject matter, or an unusual frame, there a many sources to check out, and endless possibilities.  Why not create your own art and personalize your space even more?  I‘m not suggesting purchasing canvases and going crazy with paint….most of us aren’t that talented!  Instead, look to your favorite photos from travels, vacations or other significant milestones in your life. Hit the computer and go to town with Photoshop or even the simple editing tools provided by your photo software.

You don’t have to be a technology wizard to make this happen. Simple changes to favorite photos, such as cropping to show a detail vs. revealing the entire landscape, can create a unique abstract shot.  Changing color photos to black and white or sepia give images a timeless feel.  If you need to fill a large wall, choose 4 photos that share a common thread. Maybe close-ups of natural items such as beach shells, pebbles, exotic plants, and even pinecones offer interesting textures when the outline of the subject matter is not revealed.  Purchase ready-made matted frames and voila, instant, personalized “botanicals”.  For a dining room, consider taking pictures of your favorite restaurant signs, blow them up and create an eclectic mix that will be sure to spark interesting conversation among dinner guests.

Lastly, the beloved “family wall” can get a mini-makeover by simply changing out the motley crew of mismatched frames to one or 2 styles in the same color. Switching out the color photos, and re-assigning them in black and white or sepia will provide more cohesiveness to the area.

If you are interested in turning your favorite photos into posters, there are many websites that can give you quotes on price, based on size. I recommend finding the frame you would like to see the poster in, first. Ready-made poster frames are much more economical vs. custom framing. Regardless of your choice, you will have the satisfaction that YOU are the artist of the beautiful piece hanging on your wall.
