Paint Color Guidelines
You hear it again and again but it bears repeating; “you’ll get the most bang for your buck by painting.” Here is a quick color guide to provide some inspiration:
WARM AND INVITING: Yellow, caramel, clay-tones and light cocoa colors all aid in achieving a comfortable look that will work well with popular Old world, Tuscan and Southwestern styles. Distressed, wood furniture in a dark finish is shown to it’s true potential with these colors as a background.
CLASSIC AND TRADITIONAL: Palettes of cool beiges paired with crisp white moldings are great choices for this always-stylish look. Keeping the overall color scheme in varying shades of neutrals such as putty, dove grays and French vanillas are sure to enhance a variety of furniture genres.
CONTEMPORARY AND DRAMATIC: This look can be achieved with saturated color such as brick red, cerulean blue or even acid green accented with black or espresso brown. Another approach to consider is to use icy, pale, clear colors such as aqua or pink and “pop” it with the same black or brown mentioned above. These colors, married with the clean lines of contemporary furniture will make a bold statement.
Specialty Finishes:
For that “Wow” factor in a foyer, rotunda ceiling or formal dining room, consider an artistic finish. Even a basic faux finish such as a suede effect will add extra dimension to your surface. Venetian plaster is literally a work of art that’s tactile. There is an incredible “smooth as glass” feel when certain techniques and materials are employed. You can get the effect of reptile skin or imprinted leaves that are as amazing to the touch as they are to the eye. Whether you choose a metallic, dramatic effect, or a subtle, “candlelight” enhancement, these specialty finishes will definitely command attention.
